54. The Practice of Four Enlightened Activities

Longchen Nyingtik Meditation 54

The Beginning

Take refuge and arouse bodhichitta.

The Main Part

Practice the four enlightened activities of pacifying, enriching, magnetizing, and subjugating in the context of guru yoga.

The Activity of Pacifying: Visualize that all the animate and inanimate universe is white and emanates white light rays, through which sickness, malevolent spirits, defilements, obscurations, and so on are pacified. Recite the guru’s mantra first, followed by: “So and so sickness (or so and so ill influences, or so and so malevolent spirits), SHANTI KURU YE SVAHA.”

The Activity of Enriching: Visualize that the entire world is yellow and emanates yellow light rays, through which the lifespan, wealth, and merits of oneself and others are increased. Recite the guru’s mantra first, followed by: “The wealth of so and so (or the lifespan of so and so), PUSHTIM KURU YE SVAHA.”

The Activity of Magnetizing: Visualize that the entire world is red and emanates red light rays, through which whatever is needed by oneself and others is magnetized. Recite the guru’s mantra first, followed by “So and so individual (or so and so spirit) VASHAM KURU YE SVAHA.”

The Activity of Subjugating: Visualize that the entire world is black or dark blue and emanates fire sparks, through which the malevolent spirits afflicting self and others are annihilated. Recite the guru’s mantra first, followed by: “Spirit (or demon of illness), MARAYA PHAT.”

The Ending

Dedicate all the merit of your practice to all sentient beings.
