Initiated by Khenpo Sodargye Rinpoche, the Tibetan Attire & Culture Series documents and preserves the distinctive clothing traditions of Tibetan regions, sharing this rich heritage with a global audience.

As the third volume in the series, Tibetan Attire III introduces the traditional attire unique to the southeastern Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, primarily Dechen Prefecture in Yunnan Province and Muli County in Sichuan.

Situated in the basins of the Drichu and Dzachu rivers, these regions historically lay along key trade routes of the Ancient Tea Horse Road, serving as vital relay stations. Their characteristic traditional dress reflects the region’s varying altitudes and climates, its agricultural and pastoral lifestyles, and its long history of trade and cultural exchange.

Drawing on over six months of rigorous fieldwork, this volume presents sixteen chapters documenting the types, colors, materials, craftsmanship, construction, and styling of traditional garments, along with associated customs, taboos, folk songs, and legends. Featuring exquisite on-location photography, the book offers a visual record that is both comprehensive and stunning.
